Effective Leadership Breeds Effective Employees
Finding within one’s self the desire to truly commit to being a genuine person, both in their personal and professional lives, is what can set the stage for a successful career as a manager, supervisor, and even a CEO. For those who literally live two separate and distinct lives with regard to their personality, their exists an internal conflict that can create a tumult that may be their demise professionally.
Effective Leadership can almost be considered a title; one that is indicative of who and what a person is as a valued employee or employer. It is something that takes time to develop and enhance. This is not something that is innate, although it does come easier to some rather than others. Providing the kind of leadership that is necessary to be successful in the workplace requires a steady mind and patient soul; both of which are not easily attained in life by many.
Even so, the potential for becoming a great leader exists with these types of individuals. They have practiced, to some extent, the art of listening and pondering what they have heard. Doing so helps to minimize negative or unsuccessful outcomes. Showing patience and compassion does not necessarily indicate a weakness, rather it exemplifies the wisdom from being careful not to react to swiftly; doing so can have disastrous outcomes.
What is Leadership to the average employee? How can it be defined? These are pertinent questions when considering the input of those who are on the front lines on a daily basis. Their desires for a successful and long-lasting career depend on how well they enjoy their job. Understandable, the workplace can inherently be stressful. What no one needs is more negativity to be infused into the professional lives of employees. Only taking the time to listen and absorb the information being provided will truly give the stakeholders a sense of belonging and self-worth as it applies to their respective assigned duties.
One aspect of any position within a company that seems to be assumed as being an attribute that comes with every person hired is their self-motivation. All too often, those hiring new employees see only a snapshot of who the individual is seated before them. Everything is going to usually be positive in the interview, and why not? It is a happy time when someone is considered for a position after looking for work and not finding employment.
However, the whole “Self Motivation” concept seems to be an after-thought at best. This is where so many jobs could better be filled by a more qualified person. What is done to determine the desire and drive of a candidate? Usually, it is taken on face value from what the interviewee says or has included in writing on their application or resume’. It stands to reason, if someone is going to invest thousands and thousands of dollars on one person, they might want to do a little investigation as to the validity of work ethic claims. As the saying goes, “Better to be safe then sorry.”
